How Long does Microneedling Last?

Microneedling can offer amazing, lasting results, but how long does microneedling last? Generally, the results last several months, and there are ways to preserve results, such as by following aftercare guidelines. During a consultation, we can give you a better idea of what to expect, and we’ll answer all of your questions for you. We’ll also help you determine whether you’re a good candidate for the treatment.

Are Microneedling Results Permanent?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a very popular cosmetic procedure offering amazing results. Generally, these results are not permanent, but microneedling can offer great, long-term results for acne scarring and other blemishing.

How Long do Microneedling Results Last?

Microneedling has become very popular for many reasons. For one, it offers better results than many similar treatments, and on top of that, these results are long-lasting.

In general, the results of microneedling last for three to five months. This depends on how significant your blemishes are, as well as how long the new collagen lasts in your skin. If your blemishes are pronounced, you’ll likely need to build more collagen to improve them, and you’ll likely have results lasting a few months. However, if your blemishes are less pronounced, you’ll likely have longer results.

Other factors can be involved, such as your current skin maintenance regimen, your stress levels, and your age. Typically, younger people can build collagen more easily than people with more mature skin. Also, stress can break down collagen.

How Long does a Microneedling Session Take?

Typically, a treatment session takes only 30 minutes, but it can take less or more depending on the size of the treatment area. For example, if a patient treats only a small area on their face, the session may take much less time.

After an appointment, the patient won’t need any recovery time. There may be some swelling in the treatment area, but it will go down in a short period.

How Many Sessions of Microneedling does It Take to See Results?

You could see results a few weeks after your very first session. It will take some time for the collagen to take effect, but once it does, you should notice results.

To get the best possible results, you should likely have several treatments. Most patients see their best results after three to six treatments.

It’s best to have no more than one treatment every four to six weeks. Our clinic can help you come up with an effective treatment plan.

How Can You Make Microneedling Even More Effective?

You can increase the effectiveness of microneedling treatments by having them done along with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments. PRP treatments involve using platelets from your blood to help stimulate healing in the treatment area. This can lead to even better results. You may need only three of these treatments in total.

How Can You Extend the Results of Microneedling?

Some general tips for extending microneedling results include:

  • Avoid direct sunlight and any heat for a while after a treatment

  • Temporarily avoid activities that cause excessive sweating

  • Avoid any products that may dry out or irritate the treated area

After a consultation with us, we can give you aftercare guidelines specific to you.

What Results Can I Get with Microneedling?

This depends on what blemishes you’d like to treat and how committed you are to treat them. If you have the recommended number of sessions, you may get outstanding results. Your results may be:

  • Significantly reduced minor wrinkles and fine lines in the treated area

  • Smaller pores in the area

  • Tighter skin

  • Minimized acne scarring

  • Diminished sunspots

  • A more even skin color

  • Healthier-looking skin

  • A more youthful, vibrant appearance

Who Are the Best Candidates for Microneedling?

Generally, the treatment is for all ages, genders, skin types, and skin tones. So long as your skin is healthy (with no eczema, psoriasis, sunburns, or active acne) and you’re not pregnant or breastfeeding, you should be a good candidate. During a consultation, we’ll go over your skin concerns with you and tell you whether you’re a good candidate for the treatment.
